Taken almost two decades ago this photograph appeared in the 1985-86 PLDT Metro Manila Telephone Directory. It shows the Malate Church, a concrete and adobe Romanesque structure enshires the image of Nuestra SeƱora de los Remedios, brought over from Spain in 1624. The modern bronze sculpture of Rajah Soliman, one of the pre-hispanic rulers of Maynila, juxtaposed against the centuries old church, mirrors the City of Manila - a combination of the old and the new.
